The WOW Foundation has been fortunate enough to develop a strong working
relationship with the Berkeley Contemporary Opera who have been responsible
for training over three hundred people during the last three years in high
level computer modelling and animation. This training has specialised in
Silicon Graphics platforms and Alias Wavefront animation/modelling software.
They have expressed an extreme interest in being involved in similar trainings
based in the U.K. and have asked the WOW Foundation to be their sole representatives
in this country.
The training would consist of a two week 'in house' hosted by two key personnel
from BCO and a guest animator most likely from Hollywood's Industrial Light
and Magic or the Disney Corporation. These two weeks would be followed up
by a further thirteen weeks 'on-line training' which would take advantage
of a completely new concept in internet and telephone conferencing which
has been developed by A.L. Digital. The training would take place over the
internet directly from Berkeley California, with a link to the San Francisco
Exploratorium, and would consist of a modus operandi specifically geared
to further developing and consolidating the skills which had been introduced
during the induction.
Berkeley Contemporary Opera share a similar vision to our own, and embrace
the 'apprenticeship' concept along with our vision of nurturing talent in
this most radical craft mastery process. Towards this end we would be interested
in developing ongoing relationships with ideally suited students, and involving
them in future productions of BCO work to be staged and performed in this
country.
We would be interested in hosting a training in this country and feel that
the ideal base in which to stage a training of this kind would be in Kensington's
Science Museum. The training would be for twenty students, fifteen to be
gathered from the computer game, TV and film production industries and five
to be provided with free scholarships by the WOW Foundation. All equipment
, software and technical support would be provided by the WOW Foundation
or it's partners.
The training itself would be in the Alias Wavefront software package, an
industry standard modelling/ animation and special effect package which
has be used in a wide range of Hollywood blockbusters, computer games and
TV commercials.,
We feel that the marketing and public awareness potential of this project
is immense, being as it is, only the first stage in a long term project
and production opportunity.
